Mission-specific platform Expeditions Schedule

The scientific expeditions of mission-specific platforms are part of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Programme (IODP), as well as the riserless and riser vessel (JOIDES Resolution and Chikyu) expeditions. As an 'Implementing Organisation' (IO) for MSPs, ESO has the task of operational and scientific planning; platform and equipment procurement; contracting; essential training of personnel; safety surveys; data management; core curation; onshore science parties (OSP); publication; outreach and other related pre-, intra- and post-operational activities.

ESO also undertakes the staffing of MSP science parties (offshore and onshore) in consultation with IODP-MI, USSSP, J-DESC and ESSAC. It is ESO's responsibility to ensure that MSPs comply with international and national regulations and obligations.

The first MSP Expedition, Expedition 302 - Arctic Coring Expedition - ACEX, took place in August-September 2004 (Tromsö to Tromsö, Norway).

Expedition 310 - Tahiti Sea Level Expedition sailed from October 6 to November 21, 2005 (Papeete to Papeete, Tahiti, France).

Expedition 313 - New Jersey Shallow Shelf is scheduled to take place during 2009 between May and September.
